Crime Prevention - Eighth Edition

Crime Prevention - Eighth Edition

This timely revision of Crime Prevention: Approaches, Practices, and Evaluations provides an up-to-date collection of the research on crime prevention. The prevailing approaches and strategies are organized into categories of primary prevention (designed to prevent conditions that foster deviance), secondary prevention (directed toward persons or conditions with a high potential for deviance), and tertiary prevention (dealing with those who have already committed offenses). The effects of physical environments, the mass media, displacement and diffusion, electronic monitoring, and home confinement are also explored. In addition to presenting a discussion of the different prevention approaches, the author provides insight into the effectiveness of each approach.

Here readers will find a summary of proceedings at a highly important NATO workshop. The ARW Advanced Combustion and Aerothermal Technologies: Environmental Protection and Pollution Reductions, was held in Kiev, May 2006. The workshop was co-directed by Profs. N. Syred and A.Khalatov, winners of the NATO Scientific Prize 2002, and was organized by the Institute of Thermophysics (Ukraine) and Cardiff University, UK. The Attractor Mechanism

The Attractor Mechanism

This book is based upon lectures presented in June 2007 at the INFN-Laboratori Nazionali di Frascati School on Attractor Mechanism, directed by Stefano Bellucci. The symposium included such prestigious lecturers as S. Ferrara, M. Gnaydin, P. Levay, and T. Mohaupt. All lectures were given at a pedagogical, introductory level, which is reflected in the specific ‘flavor’ of this volume. The book also benefits from extensive discussions about, and related reworking of, the various contributions. In addition, this volume contains contributions originating from short presentations of recent original results and an essay on the relation between complexity science and high-energy physics by A. Zichichi. It is the fourth volume in a series of books on the general topics of supersymmetry, supergravity, black holes and the attractor mechanism.
