This publication addresses the gender dimensions of peoples lived experience and emphasizes how gender relationships differentially impact on womens and girls as well as mens and boys subjective well-being across the lifespan. It therefore fills a significant gap in the literature on quality of life and subjective well-being. The book brings together research which compares females and males subjective experiences of well-being at various life stages from a variety of countries and regions, particularly focusing on womens subjective well-being. Sex-disaggregation of data on objective conditions of quality of life is now routinely undertaken in many countries of the world. However, despite the burgeoning of objective data on sex differences in life conditions across the world, very little gender analysis is carried out to explain fully such difference and there is still a serious dearth of data on gender differences in subjective experiences of quality of life and well-being. This publication will assist researchers, teachers, service providers and policy makers in filling some of the gaps in currently available literature on the nexus between age and gender in producing differential experiences of subjective wellbeing.

Gender, Lifespan and Quality of Life
Dignity Therapy
Maintaining dignity for patients approaching death is a core principle of palliative care. Translating that principle into methods of guiding care at the end of life, however, can be a complicated and daunting task. Dignity therapy, a psychological intervention developed by Dr. Harvey Max Chochinov and his internationally lauded research group, has been designed specifically to address many of the psychological, existential, and spiritual challenges that patients and their families face as they grapple with the reality of life drawing to a close. Tested with patients with advanced illnesses in Canada, the United States, Australia, China, Scotland, England, and Denmark, dignity therapy has been shown to not only benefit patients, but their families as well. In the first book to lay out the blueprint for this unique and meaningful intervention, Chochinov addresses one of the most important dimensions of being human. Being alive means being vulnerable and mortal; he argues that dignity therapy offers a way to preserve meaning and hope for patients approaching death. Dignity Therapy: Final Words for Final Days is a beautiful introduction to this pioneering and innovative work. With history and foundations of dignity in care, and step by step guidance for readers interested in implementing the program, this volume illuminates how dignity therapy can change end-of-life experience for those about to die – and for those who will grieve their passing.

On Vision and Colors
During the first two decades of the nineteenth century, two of the most significant theoretical works on color since Leonardo da Vinci’s Trattato della Pittura were written and published in Germany: Arthur Schopenhauer’s On Vision and Colors and Philipp Otto Runge’s Color Sphere. For Schopenhauer, vision iswholly subjective in nature and characterized by processes that cross over into the territory of philosophy. Runge’s Color Sphere and essay ‘The Duality of Color’ contained one of the first attempts to depict a comprehensive and harmonious color system in three dimensions. Runge intended his color sphere to be understood not as a product of art, but rather as a ‘mathematical figure of various philosophical reflections.’

Accident And Design
An examination of different theoretical, methodological and practical approaches towards the management of risk. Seven dimensions of the debate are identified, and the case for each position is put forward, the whole discussion being set in context and perspective. This volume attempts to identify and juxtapose the contested doctrines and underlying assumptions in the field of risk management.

Generic and Indexed Programming
Generic programming is about making programs more widely applicable via exotic kinds of parametrization—not just along the dimensions of values or of types, but also of things such as the shape of data, algebraic structures, strategies, computational paradigms, and so on. Indexed programming is a lightweight form of dependently typed programming, constraining flexibility by allowing one to state and check relationships between parameters: that the shapes of two arguments agree, that an encoded value matches some type, that values transmitted along a channel conform to the stated protocol, and so on. The two forces of genericity and indexing balance each other nicely, simultaneously promoting and controlling generality. The 5 lectures included in this book stem from the Spring School on Generic and Indexed Programming, held in Oxford, UK, in March 2010 as a closing activity of the generic and indexed programming project at Oxford which took place in the years 2006-2010.

The Ethical Hacking Guide to Corporate Security
The Internet with its widening global dimensions has exposed the corporate world to the grave threat of espionage and cyber crimes; however, the organizations are invariably oblivious to these threats. The Ethical Hacking Guide to Corporate Security dismisses this incompetent approach. The book has addressed some of the horrific cyber crime cases to hit the corporate world, across 17 different countries in 5 continents. Direct correlation has been drawn between computer security and business profitability through an appropriate mix of technical explanation and business implication. This is a thoroughly researched book that provides easy-to-understand analyses of some of the most dangerous security threats and measures to safeguard networks.

Applied Mathematics
This is a textbook for a two-semester graduate course in Mathematical Methods in Physics. Most universities give this course, which is often taught jointly with the Engineering or Mathematics Departments. General topics include: group theory, linear equations, matrices, series, functions of complex variables, conformal mapping, special functions, and partial differential equations. Each chapter has numerous homework problems. The section on transforms includes those on Fourier and Laplace, as well as the modern topic of wavelets. The chapters on partial differential equations include: Laplace’s, Poisson’s, Helmholtz, diffusion, and wave equations. Problems are treated in one, two, and three dimensions.

Globalization
Offers a stimulating introduction to globalization and its varying impacts across, between, and within societies. It is a highly readable book that contributes to a better understanding of the crucial aspects and dimensions of the developments and transformations that go by the name of globalization. – ;’Globalization’ has become the buzz-word of our time. A growing number of scholars and political activists have invoked the term to describe a variety of changing economic, political, cultural, ideological, and environmental processes that are alleged to have accelerated in the last few decades. Rather than forcing such a complex social phenomenon into a single conceptual framework, Manfred Steger presents globalization in plain, readable English as a multifaceted process encompassing global, regional, and local aspects of social life. In addition to explaining the various dimensions of globalization, the author explores whether globalization should be considered a ‘good’ or ‘bad’ thing – a question that has been hotly debated in classrooms, boardrooms, and on the streets.

Religious Conversion
Conversion has been an important issue for most of the universal religions – those usually associated with a founder, such as Christianity, Buddhism, Islam and Judaism – which have a mission to spread their message. Other religions have been less concerned with conversion except in so far as it has been a negative force for them to confront. This study explores how conversion has been understood by different religions during different eras, and includes a survey of the textual, legal, ritual, historic and experiential dimensions of the phenomenon of conversion.
