Boundary Value Problems

Boundary Value Problems

Boundary Value Problems is the leading text on boundary value problems and Fourier series. The author, David Powers, (Clarkson) has written a thorough, theoretical overview of solving boundary value problems involving partial differential equations by the methods of separation of variables.

Semigroups of Linear Operators and Applications to Partial Differential Equations

Semigroups of Linear Operators and Applications to Partial Differential Equations

Since the characterization of generators of C0 semigroups was established in the 1940s, semigroups of linear operators and its neighboring areas have developed into an abstract theory that has become a necessary discipline in functional analysis and differential equations. This book presents that theory and its basic applications, and the last two chapters give a connected account of the applications to partial differential equations.

Concentration Analysis and Applications to PDE

Concentration Analysis and Applications to PDE

Concentration analysis provides, in settings without a priori available compactness, a manageable structural description for the functional sequences intended to approximate solutions of partial differential equations. Since the introduction of concentration compactness in the 1980s, concentration analysis today is formalized on the functional-analytic level as well as in terms of wavelets, extends to a wide range of spaces, involves much larger class of invariances than the original Euclidean rescalings and has a broad scope of applications to PDE. This book represents current research in concentration and blow-up phenomena from various perspectives, with a variety of applications to elliptic and evolution PDEs, as well as a systematic functional-analytic background for concentration phenomena, presented by profile decompositions based on wavelet theory and cocompact imbeddings.

Structural Equation Modeling

Structural Equation Modeling

This volume is intended to serve as a didactically-oriented resource covering a broad range of advanced topics often not discussedin introductory courses on structural equation modeling (SEM). Such topics are important in furthering the understandingof foundations and assumptions underlying SEM as well as in exploring SEM as a potential tool to address new types ofresearch questions that might not have arisen during a first course. Chapters focus on the clear explanation and application oftopics, rather than on analytical derivations, and contain syntax and partial output files from popular SEM software.

The Lomborg Deception

The Lomborg Deception

In this major assessment of leading climate-change skeptic Bjrn Lomborg, Howard Friel meticulously deconstructs the Danish statisticians claim that global warming is no catastrophe by exposing the systematic misrepresentations and partial accounting that are at the core of climate skepticism. His detailed analysis serves not only as a guide to reading the global warming skeptics, but also as a model for assessing the state of climate science. With attention to the complexities of climate-related phenomena across a range of areasfrom Arctic sea ice to the Antarctic ice sheetThe Lomborg Deception also offers readers an enlightening review of some of todays most urgent climate concerns.
