The Transnational Unconscious
Transnational Unconscious examines psychoanalysis as both a national and trans-national phenomenon. It explores the distinctive national and international aspects of the reception and circulation of psychoanalytic thought and practice, psychoanalysis as a cultural paradigm, and both its oppressive and liberatory potential at different historical periods. While focusing on specific national cases, the essays emphasize the transnational aspects of local reception and diffusion of psychoanalysis, in particular the flow of people, ideas, and practice.

Illicit Antiquities
The exploitation of archaeological sites for commercial gain is a serious problem worldwide. In peace and during wartime archaeological sites and cultural institutions, both on land and underwater, are attacked and their contents robbed for sale on an international ‘antiquities’ market. Objects are excavated without record, smuggled across borders and sold for exorbitant prices in the salesrooms of Europe and North America. In some countries this looting has now reached such a scale as to threaten the very survival of their archaeological and cultural heritage.

The Cambridge Companion to Jung
This volume of specially commissioned essays is a critical introduction to the psychology of Carl Jung, one of the founders of psychoanalysis. Jung broke with Freud and developed his own theories which he called ‘analytical psychology’. The essays set Jung in the context of his own time, outline the practice and theory of Jungian psychology and show how Jungians continue to question and evolve his thinking to fit the post-modern, multi-cultural world of contemporary psychoanalysis. Andrew Samuels’s introduction gives an appreciation of Jung’s work and discusses the three approaches to analytical psychology. The Companion includes a full chronology of his life and work, reading lists, a case study and a glossary. It is an indispensible reference tool for beginning students and specialists, written by an international team of Jungian analysts and scholars from various disciplines.

Photosynthesis, Energy from the Sun - Volume I
The Proceedings of the 14th International Congress on Photosynthesis is a record of the most recent advances and emerging themes in the discipline. This volume contains over 350 contributions from some 800 participants attending the meeting in Glasgow, UK in July 2007. These range from summary overview presentations from plenary speakers to expanded content of posters presented by students and their supervisors featuring the most recent achievements in photosynthesis research. In the words of Professor Eva-Mari Aro, President of the international Society of Photosynthesis Research 2004-7, Having been taken for granted for centuries, research in photosynthesis has now become a matter of utmost importance for the future of planet Earth Major initiatives are underway that will use research into natural and artificial photosynthesis for sustainable energy production . . These volumes thus provide a glimpse of the future, from the molecule to the biosphere

Wheels Stop
Humanitys first reusable spacecraft and the most complex machine ever built, NASAs Space Shuttle debuted with great promise and as a dependable source of wonder and national pride. But with the Challenger catastrophe in 1986, the whole Space Shuttle program came into question, as did NASA itself, so long an institution that was seemingly above reproach. Wheels Stop tells the stirring story of how, after the Challenger disaster, the Space Shuttle not only recovered but went on to perform its greatest missions. From the Return to Flight mission of STS-26 in 1988 to the last shuttle mission ever on STS-135 in 2011, Wheels Stop takes readers behind the scenes as the shuttles crews begin to mend Cold War tensions with the former Soviet Union, conduct vital research, deploy satellites, repair the Hubble Space Telescope, and assist in constructing the International Space Station. It also tells the heart-wrenching story of the Columbia tragedy and the loss of the magnificent STS-107 crew.
An Economic Analysis of Bilateral Investment Treaties
Bilateral Investment Treaties (BITs) are an important instrument for the protection of foreign direct investment (FDI). However, compared to international trade law, international investment law has so far received only little research attention from an economic point of view. By applying a law and economics approach, Jan Peter Sasse provides a systematic analysis of the way BITs function. He explains why BITs are more than just a signal, how they relate to institutional competition as well as to institutional quality and why transparency in international investment arbitration is hard to achieve and may even be detrimental.

Seafood and Freshwater Toxins, Second Edition
The occurrence of marine and freshwater toxins is a rapidly evolving problem due to ever-changing circumstances. Expanding international commerce is forcing cargo ships into virgin territory, deforestation and pollution violate the natural ecological balance, and a changing climate holds unknown potential to alter current factors and trigger toxic blooms in new forms, at new rates, and in new places. Fortunately, with notable advances in analysis technology, the body of knowledge in the field is equally dynamic. In just six years since the first edition, toxins that warranted only line listings, including pfiestra, gambierol, and polycavernoside, are now worthy of entire chapters, requiring a new edition to encompass the expanding scope of the field.

Radiation Disaster Medicine
While many books are available on disaster medicine, none is specifically devoted to the role of physicians in the management of patients exposed to radiation leakage from a damaged nuclear power plant. Radiation Disaster Medicine aims to fill this void based on the response to the Fukushima nuclear accident. Each chapter addresses principles and practices of radiation medicine within the specific context of that accident. Topics covered include the role of physicians in radiation disasters, the concepts of external and internal exposure, prehospital and hospital response, disaster behavioral health, and radiation emergency response from the perspective of national and international institutions. Most of the contributors are active educators and researchers in radiation medicine with first-hand experience in dealing with prehospital triage and management of patients within secondary and tertiary care hospitals in Japan.
